Technology Abuse:
Protecting Victim Safety, Privacy, and Confidentiality

Cynthia Fraser, Erica Olsen, M.S.W. & Valenda Applegarth, J.D.
Saturday, May 31 at 1:30 pm

Abusers and perpetrators misuse technology to track a victim’s every move and monitor everything that he or she does. Emerging technologies from databases to internet search engines pose a challenge for victim safety, privacy, and confidentiality. This workshop demonstrates safety risks for a range of phone, computer, imaging, mapping, location tracking, Internet, and assistive technologies. Presenters will explore victim privacy and identity safety, including victim relocation. The workshop will highlight successfully prosecuted cases, and provide crucial tips for safety planning so participants can better support and represent crime victims.
