Kim Montagriff, J.D., is a Staff Attorney for NCVLI. In this capacity she participates in impact litigation, writing amicus curiae briefs and providing national legal technical assistance to attorneys representing victims of crime. Ms. Montagriff's work with NCVLI has included drafting briefs and memoranda on the unconstitutionality of marital rape exemption laws, the right of a victim to be present at trial, appropriate limitations and protections for victims during pretrial depositions and rape shield hearings, the attempted expulsion of sexual assault victims from high school because of so called "zero tolerance" regulations, the protection of privileged records, and the right of a victim of a juvenile offense to recover restitution. Ms. Montagriff also provides consultation and training to attorneys, advocates, and other victim service providers. Prior to joining NCVLI, Ms. Montagriff was an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Colorado, working in the appellate unit of the Criminal Enforcement Section. During her tenure at the office of the Attorney General, Ms. Montagriff worked exclusively on criminal appellate issues, including cases involving child victims and victims of sexual violence. Ms. Montagriff clerked for Justice Kirshbaum on the Colorado State Supreme Court and served as a Lawyering Process Professor and legal writing instructor at the University of Denver College of Law. She has a B.S. from Colorado State University, and a J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law.
